This mix lacked a bit of oomph, so I stripped out the yé-yé pop and some of the softer numbers, et voilà.
We don’t seem to have many all girl / woman rock bands in NZ, I mean 4 on the floor hard rock, as opposed to soft rock like When the Cats Away. Instead we blighted the world with the Popstars and, gulp, Truebliss (although a Kiwi was responsible for an all girl band that recorded as the New Runaways and I haven’t forgotten Look Blue Go Purple but they were more Cure than Ramones)
Anyways, I wonder why this is so in a country that promotes women so strongly. Perhaps its the lack of role models and hence why most of the rocky all girl bands are from the USA, home of The Runaways and Josie & The Pussycats (or better here)
Less than two days after her deeply divisive debut SNL performance, word comes that Lana Del Rey is heading into the belly of the beast: she’s been added to the SXSW 2012 line-up, which means the dusky Born To Die singer will perform for many of the tastemakers, music bloggers, advertisers and industry folk who have slammed her privately and publicly.
Kiwi artists invited to showcase at the 2012 South by South West music conference have been named. The Austin, Texas-based conference will run from March 13-18 next year, with roughly 2,000 musical acts, from every corner of the globe, performing across 90 venues.
Local acts to receive the SXSW call-up are – AvalancheCity, Cairo Knife Fight, Electric Wire Hustle, Kimbra, Popstrangers, Purple Pilgrims, The Drab Doo Riffs and The Golden Awesome.
